Sean Farrell is a painter who has attracted a wide following both internationally and throughout the United States.  He is known for the great luminous and vivid style of his oil paintings.  His works are highly collected, and he is represented by six galleries in the US. He has also been exhibited internationally in Europe.

This year Farrell has been invited to exhibit his work once again at the prestigious Florence Biennale in Italy.  The artist exhibited at the Biennale in December of 2005 where NYARTS magazine covered the exhibition, and praised his work by writing "Works deserving special attention are Sean Farrell's exquisitely painted flower and fruit arrangements.  Eye-catching with his use of dramatically bold colors mixed with delicate detail in a very modern old-master style."  In addition to the Florence Biennale, Farrell has been invited to exhibit at the Biennale di Chianciano, in Tuscany later this year.

Sean at Work

To study his craft, Farrell chose to travel throughout Europe    rather than attending art school.   His special affinity for the master works of the 17th century Italian and Dutch painters lead him to numerous galleries, museums, and churches to absorb the works of these master directly. From this study, he developed a style that is thoroughly his own.  In the words of gallery owner Rick Willoughby "Walk into any gallery in the country where his paintings are displayed, and one will instantly recognize his works on the walls". "Mr. Farrell's works are distinctive for their elegant and graceful compositions, his rich jewel like color, and his masterful use of light", says Reggie Levine, a retired Nantucket gallery owner, "His works reveal a master's touch and a sense of quiet ease".

In the spring of 2009, Sean Farrell's painting Sails on the Horizon, (Morning Glory) was awarded the coveted "Patron's Choice Award" at the Copley Society of Art.  This award is made by the patrons of the Copley Society in Boston at an exhibition of selected artits.   This is the third consecutive Patron's Choice award for Farrell, and he has recently accepted the invitation of the Copley Society to create a major solo exhibit of his work. Look for this exhibition in the Falll of 2010 season.

Farrell has also recently been recognized by the Northeast Connecticut Artist Guild by the gift of a lifetime membership.

He lives in northeast Connecticut with his wife and their two children.
